Dr. Shinya Ohmagari completed the Bachelor’s degree (Engineering) at Ariake National College of Technology, and received his Master’s and PhD degree in Engineering in 2012 from the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University, Japan. After serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PD) of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), he joined the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in 2013 as a research scientist. His research focuses on diamond crystal growth technologies and their applications to electronic and sensing devices.

Currently, Dr. Ohmagari has served as a Senior Research Scientist at Sensing System Research Center in AIST. In parallel with his academic career, he has been actively engaged in social and professional service. He is the Representative Director of the non-profit organization Kyushu Mirai-juku, the founding representative of the Young Researchers’ Chapter of the Japan Society of Applied Physics (since 2022), an International Committee Member and an executive committee member of the Young Researchers’ Group of the New Diamond Forum.

Dr. Ohmagari has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific journal papers. In 2022, he was appointed as a Executive and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of ExtenD Co. Ltd., where he contributes to the commercialization of diamond-based technologies.

His honors include the EMS Award at the 41st Electronic Materials Symposium (2022), the JSAP Presentation Award (Autumn Meeting, 2018), the JSAP Poster Award (Spring Meeting, 2018), the Best Presentation Award at the 28th Diamond Symposium (2014), the IUMRS-ICA Young Scientist Award (Bronze, 2014), the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 24th Diamond Symposium (2010), and the Faculty Award from Kyushu University (2010).
